Privacy Policy
Last updated: 18 July 2026
Popnota is a text-only space for sharing short thoughts under a username of your choice. We built it to be light on data — we collect the minimum needed to run the service, and we never sell it.
What we collect
- Account identity. When you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive a unique identifier (and an email, if you choose to share it) so you can log back into the same account. With Sign in with Apple you may hide your email — that's fine, we don't need it. You can also sign in with your email address, in which case we use it to send a one-time login code and to identify your account.
- Your content and profile. The notes, replies, likes, saves, follows, direct messages and username you create, plus profile details you choose to provide, such as birthday, gender and MBTI.
- Purchases. A record of which cosmetic items you've unlocked (your entitlements), so we can restore them across your devices. Payment is handled entirely by Apple through the App Store — we never receive or store your payment card details.
- Preferences and activity. Your chosen language, theme and notification settings, along with reading history and interactions used to operate and personalize Popnota.
- Basic technical data. A session cookie to keep you signed in, an anonymous device token used only to deliver push notifications, and limited server logs (such as IP address and time of request) used for security and abuse prevention.
What we don't do
- We don't sell or rent your personal data.
- We don't embed third-party advertising or analytics SDKs, and we don't give advertisers your identity, private messages or private posts.
- We don't post anything as you without you doing it.
Advertising
Popnota displays paid promotions from advertisers. To select promotions that may be more relevant, our own servers may use your app language, approximate country derived from your IP address, age or gender if you provided them, and an interest profile derived from your activity in Popnota. We record ad impressions and clicks for delivery, fraud prevention and aggregate campaign reporting. Advertisers receive aggregate performance totals, not your identity, profile, messages or private content.
Featuring public notes
To show people what the app is like, we sometimes feature a public note on Popnota's own accounts on other platforms. What goes out is the note's text, your username and your avatar — the same things anyone can already see on that note's public page. Public notes only: never direct messages, never private posts. If you'd rather we didn't, tell us and we'll leave your notes out of it.
Content moderation
Notes and replies are screened by an automated safety filter before they go live, to keep the space free of violent or sexual content and other abuse.
Your choices
- Delete any note you've shared at any time.
- Turn @-mention alerts on or off in Settings.
- Block users so you no longer see each other.
- Ask us not to feature your notes on Popnota's accounts elsewhere.
- Delete your account (Settings → Account → Delete account). This removes your active sign-in credentials and profile, makes your posts unavailable, and removes account-linked likes, saves, follows, history and notification data. A login identifier may be retained for up to 30 days solely to enforce our abuse-prevention re-registration cooldown. Replies and direct messages already shared with other people may remain in their conversations in anonymized form, without a link to your deleted profile.
Children
Popnota is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country). We don't knowingly collect data from them.
Changes
If we make material changes to this policy, we'll update the date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app.
